Windows Explorer crashing when using App Volumes and OneDrive

Users have recently reported that Windows Explorer crashes when logging into their instant clone virtual machines or seems to be slow. The issue affects Windows 10 22H2 machines with the latest windows Build 19045.5198.

According to Omnissa (Formerly known as VMware EUC) this issue is caused by Onedrive and App Volume not liking each other very much.

But together with Omnissa we found a solution:

  1. Open the file %SVAgent%\Config\Custom\snapvol.cfg on your golden image. If this file does not exist simply create the custom folder UNDER config and create a snapvol.cfg file.
  2. Now add the follwing statement into the snapvol.cfg file: exclude_registry=\REGISTRY\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\SyncRootManager
  3. After that you have create a new snapshot of your golden image and deploy it to your desktop pool.
